About

FusionBenchmark is a directory of fusion and advanced-nuclear organisations whose spine is a sourced, denominator-explicit record of what each device has actually achieved.

The benchmark is the product. The directory supports it. A change that makes the directory bigger at the cost of the benchmark's credibility is a bad change, and gets declined.

How a number gets here

Capture. A source page is fetched once, hashed with SHA-256, and archived. Two scripts in the whole pipeline are allowed to touch the network; everything after this reads the archived bytes, never the live web. That is what makes the result reproducible.
Extract. Figures are read out of the archive offline. Nothing is ever extracted as achieved — extraction emits claimed, and promotion is a judgement that requires a date.
Validate. The dataset is checked against a JSON Schema, controlled vocabularies, and a hash-chained ledger. Errors block.
Verify. A human opens the source and confirms the figure. Only then does verifiedAt get set. Every verification pass run so far has changed the data.

What this site refuses to do

Publish an undenominated gain. There is no gain field. A Q with no stated denominator is unrepresentable here, not merely discouraged.
Rank targets alongside results. planned figures are permanently ineligible for every leaderboard.
Impute a missing value. Absence is a finding. If a field is empty, our source did not state it.
Delete an inconvenient record. Status gets downgraded and a note added; the ledger keeps the history.
Treat repetition as corroboration. Several outlets carrying one press release is one source.

And the part that matters more: what it does not know — including that 219 of 231 sources are the operator of the thing they describe.

Corrections

If a figure here is wrong, it should be corrected — including when the correction is inconvenient. Every change lands in the changelog, which is derived from an append-only, hash-chained ledger: entries cannot be edited or removed after the fact, so a correction is permanent public record rather than a quiet edit.

The most useful correction states which record, what the right value is, and a source that establishes it — ideally peer-reviewed or a regulator docket rather than a press release.

Independence

This site is not affiliated with, funded by, or endorsed by any organisation it lists. It takes no advertising and no sponsorship from listed companies. If that ever changes it will be disclosed here before it takes effect, because a directory whose funding is unclear cannot be trusted about the companies funding it.
