The Comisión Chilena de Energía Nuclear (CCHEN) is the Chilean government's nuclear agency, under the Ministry of Energy, responsible for regulating, authorising and inspecting nuclear and radioactive activity in Chile. It also does nuclear research and development at two nuclear centres near Santiago, La Reina and Lo Aguirre. It operates the RECH-1 pool research reactor, in service since 1974; a second reactor, RECH-2, is in extended shutdown.
