The Ghana Atomic Energy Commission is Ghana's state body for nuclear energy, organised in 1963 under the Ghana Nuclear Reactor Project. It operates the Ghana Research Reactor-1 (GHARR-1), a 30 kilowatt miniature neutron source reactor that became operational in 1994 and which it converted from highly enriched to low enriched uranium with the IAEA. Its institutes include the National Nuclear Research Institute, the Nuclear Power Institute and the School of Nuclear and Allied Sciences.
