The Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan is a research institute in the Ulugbek settlement of Tashkent, created by government decree in 1956. It works on nuclear and particle physics, solid-state physics, activation analysis, radiochemistry and isotope production. Its WWR-SM research reactor started in 1959 at 2 MW and has run at 10 MW since a reconstruction completed in 1980; its fuel enrichment was lowered to 36% in 1998 and to 19.82% in 2009. A May 2016 decree abolished the institute and the reactor was stopped on 2 July 2016, but a 2017 presidential decree re-established the institute, and new fuel from Russia's TVEL was shipped in June 2018.
