The Instituto Peruano de Energía Nuclear (IPEN) is Peru's nuclear research agency, part of the Ministry of Energy and Mines, founded on 4 February 1975. It regulates and promotes nuclear research and applications. It runs the RACSO nuclear centre in Carabayllo, Lima, and operates the RP-10, a 10-megawatt pool-type research reactor built by Argentina's INVAP and in service since the late 1980s, used mainly to produce radioisotopes. It also has the RP-0, a zero-power critical assembly in Lima dating from 1978.
