Also known as VINATOM

The Vietnam Atomic Energy Institute (VINATOM) is a state scientific organisation under Vietnam's Ministry of Science and Technology, headquartered in Hanoi, that carries out research, applications and technical support in atomic energy. It dates from 23 February 1979, when the Dalat Nuclear Research Institute, set up in 1976, was placed directly under the Prime Minister as the Nuclear Research Institute. The Dalat reactor, a 500 kW TRIGA Mark II pool reactor supplied by the United States in 1963 and shut down in 1975, was restored and expanded with Soviet help and returned to operation in March 1984. A 15 MW multipurpose research reactor at Da Lat is listed as planned.
