Claimed (status)

The status given to a figure that is reported by a source but has not been independently confirmed. It is the status of most figures in this dataset. Claimed does not mean doubted: it means the source says so and the figure has not yet been checked against a second, independent source or promoted by a specialist review. Nothing is ever entered directly as achieved; every new figure starts as claimed.
