Denominator

What a ratio, most often a gain figure, is divided by. Fusion gain is meaningless without stating it: the same NIF shot in December 2022 was a target gain of 1.5 when its fusion energy is divided by the laser energy delivered to the target, and a wall-plug gain below 0.01 when it is divided by the electricity the facility stored to fire the shot. This site records a denominator for every ratio it publishes, which is why it has no field that can hold a bare gain figure at all.
