Depleted uranium (tails)
The uranium left over from enrichment, holding less uranium-235 than natural uranium, typically 0.2 to 0.3%. It builds up in large quantities: making one kilogram of ordinary 4.5% reactor fuel leaves roughly eight kilograms of it. It is less radioactive than natural uranium and is mostly stored. It is the uranium usually blended with plutonium in MOX fuel, and the fertile material a fast reactor could convert into plutonium.
