Generic Design Assessment (GDA)
GDA
A voluntary UK process, run jointly by the Office for Nuclear Regulation and the Environment Agency (and Natural Resources Wales in Wales), that assesses a reactor design on its own merits, separately from any specific site. It proceeds in steps that get more detailed, normally three, and a full GDA ends with a Design Acceptance Confirmation and a Statement of Design Acceptability. Even a completed GDA does not authorise building anything: the operator still needs a nuclear site licence, environmental permits and planning permission for a specific site.
