LEU+ (5–10% U-235)

LEU+

Uranium enriched to between 5% and 10% uranium-235, the band the World Nuclear Association and the industry call LEU+. It lies inside the HALEU range, but is tracked separately for a concrete reason: US security rules place uranium below 10% enrichment in the lightest category (Category III) whatever the quantity, while 10 kg or more of uranium-235 in uranium enriched to 10% or more falls in Category II, which needs heavier protection. A design that stays under 10% therefore carries materially lighter security requirements. Aalo Atomics's fuel at roughly 8% uranium-235 is the reference case: the company calls it 'LEU' in its own materials, but by the 5 to 20% HALEU definition it is HALEU, in the LEU+ band.
