Capture
The first step in this site's data pipeline: fetching a source page and storing an exact copy of what came back, along with a SHA-256 fingerprint of the stored bytes. Every later check is made against this stored copy, not the live page, so if the page is later edited or removed, what this site relied on cannot silently change. A page that loads successfully but sends little readable content, because scripts were meant to fill it in afterward, is marked thin and re-fetched with a full browser rather than trusted as captured.
