Retracted (status)

The status given to a figure that has been formally withdrawn, whether by the source that published it or because a subsequent review found it could not be supported. The record is kept rather than deleted, with its retraction and the reason recorded, because a directory that quietly removes withdrawn claims would lose exactly the information a reader most needs when checking a number against its history.
