First criticality
The reactor first sustained a chain reaction, normally at very low power for physics tests. It is the first proof that the built core behaves as designed, not the start of power production: raising power, grid connection and commercial operation follow, often months later. Reaching criticality is the normal way a reactor starts, not an accident.
