Also known as NARI, INER, Institute of Nuclear Energy Research
The National Atomic Research Institute (NARI) in Longtan, Taoyuan, is Taiwan's national nuclear research body, an administrative corporation supervised by the Nuclear Safety Commission. It was created on 27 September 2023 by reorganising the Institute of Nuclear Energy Research (INER), a government institute founded on 9 May 1968. INER built the 40 MW Taiwan Research Reactor, which reached full power in 1973 and was later shut down for decommissioning, and a 30 MeV cyclotron in 1993 for nuclear medicine and radiation applications. NARI works on nuclear safety, the back end of the fuel cycle, medical and other uses of radiation, and new energy technologies.
