The Taiwan Power Company (Taipower) is the state-owned electric utility of Taiwan and its offshore islands, established on 1 May 1946 and headquartered in Zhongzheng District, Taipei. It operated Taiwan's nuclear power plants. Its Maanshan plant in Pingtung County shut its two reactors when their licences expired in 2024 and 2025; Unit 2 was fully disconnected on 17 May 2025, and a referendum on restarting Maanshan failed on 23 August 2025 because the yes vote fell short of the required quarter of eligible voters, according to Wikipedia. Taipower's own site still carries sections on nuclear operations and back-end (waste and decommissioning) work.
