Steady Energy is a Helsinki-based company developing the LDR-50, a small light-water reactor designed to produce heat for district heating networks rather than electricity. It runs at much lower temperature and pressure than a power reactor. The design began in 2020 at VTT, the Technical Research Centre of Finland, from which the company was spun out. The company says construction of a pilot plant is due to start in 2026, with an investment decision on a first commercial plant in 2028.

Terms
- Water-cooled
- Reactors cooled by ordinary or heavy water, which in most designs is also the neutron moderator.
- Low-enriched uranium
- Uranium enriched to 5% uranium-235 or less, typically 3 to 5%: the range almost all power reactors use. Formally, anything below 20% is low-enriched; this site holds the band from 5% to just under 20% separately as HALEU, with its 5 to 10% part also tagged as LEU+. A fuel above 5% uranium-235 belongs in one of those, never here, whatever a developer's own materials call it.
