In 2020, researchers at the Technical Research Centre of Finland (VTT) began work on a simplified reactor specifically designed for producing low-temperature heat. As work progressed it became clear that the targeted design concept of the LDR-50 had enormous commercial, and environmental potential. By May 2023, backed by visionary investors, Steady Energy hit the ground running. Founded by the Tommi Nyman, Hannes Haapalahti, and Petteri Tenhunen, the company is now dedicated on transforming the LDR-50’s potential into real-world commercial success and environmental progress.

At Steady Energy, we've simplified trusted and tested light water nuclear technology by focusing solely on heating. This innovation offers a solution for municipalities still dependent on fossil fuels or biomass, eliminating the need to choose between meeting climate targets and heating demands.

At the core of our solution lies the LDR-50 nuclear reactor, which operates at low temperatures and pressures. This groundbreaking technology ensures investable, safe, and emission-free heat production at significantly lower temperatures and pressures compared to traditional nuclear reactors. Our compact and secure plants can be located near urban areas.

Our solution excels at district heating. We’re outperforming traditional nuclear in efficiency and our lifecycle emissions are similar to offshore wind. But here’s the thing: we’re not here to compete with renewables; we’re here to complement them.

In winter, when temperatures drop and sunlight is scarce, renewables are pushed to their limits. Our district heating solution supports renewables by decoupling energy-intensive heating demands from the electricity grid, allowing the promise of renewables to continue shining even in the coldest months. Together, we’re stronger, and a carbon-free future is even closer.
