Vattenfall is a Swedish power company owned by the Swedish state, founded in 1909 as the Royal Waterfall Board, which also generates power in Denmark, Finland, Germany, the Netherlands and the UK. It began building nuclear reactors in 1974 with Ringhals 1 and 2 and came to own seven of Sweden's 12 reactors, at the Ringhals and Forsmark plants. Its German reactors at Brunsbüttel and Krümmel were shut by government order in 2011, and it sued the German government over the accelerated phase-out.
