Horne Technologies is a US fusion company developing what it calls a hybrid approach. Its Horne Fusion Reactor combines inertial electrostatic confinement, in which electric fields accelerate ions towards a central region where they collide, with magnetic cusp confinement using a superconducting, magnetically shielded grid. The IAEA's 2022 survey lists the Horne Hybrid Reactor as under construction and says it will use REBCO high-temperature superconducting magnets. The company plans to start with deuterium fuel and builds and tests its hardware in-house.
