The Instituto de Pesquisas Energéticas e Nucleares (IPEN) is a nuclear research institute on the University of São Paulo campus. It is an autarchy of São Paulo state, run technically and administratively by Brazil's National Nuclear Energy Commission (CNEN). It operates the IEA-R1 pool research reactor, in service since 1957, and the IPEN/MB-01 zero-power reactor, since 1988. Its work covers radiation and radioisotope applications, reactors and materials, and it hosts the office of the Brazilian Multipurpose Reactor project.
