🇫🇷 Nanterre, FR · Founded 2020-03-27 · Defunct
NAAREA (Nuclear Abundant Affordable Resourceful Energy for All) is a French company whose legal unit was created on 27 March 2020, according to the business register. It designs the XAMR, which it describes to the IAEA as a mass-produced fast-spectrum micro-reactor of 80 MW of heat and 40 MWe, with fuel dissolved in molten chloride salt and made from plutonium in spent fuel from existing reactors. It planned to sell energy as a service, owning and operating its reactors. A French court opened receivership proceedings on 3 September 2025 and converted them to liquidation on 15 January 2026, approving a sale of the business; the buyer is not named in the court notices. Its website, naarea.fr, no longer carries the company's pages.

Terms
- Molten salt reactor
- Fuel DISSOLVED in the salt, which in most designs is fuel carrier and coolant at once. Distinct from a salt-cooled reactor with solid fuel; the two are often confused. Moderator, where one is used at all, is a separate design choice from the salt: thermal-spectrum MSRs are typically graphite-moderated, fast-spectrum MSRs carry no moderator.
