What these terms mean

Every classification on this page, defined. These are controlled-vocabulary terms, so the same word means the same thing on every profile.

Reactor developer
Develops a fission reactor design. Carries no implication that anything is licensed, funded or built.
Fission
Advanced and small modular fission reactor developers, plus established reactor vendors.
High-temperature gas-cooled reactor › › High-temperature gas-cooled reactor
Helium-cooled and graphite-moderated, running far hotter than a water reactor. The high outlet temperature suits industrial process heat as well as electricity.
High-assay low-enriched uranium
5–20% U-235. The binding supply constraint for most advanced reactor designs.

In Valar Atomics’s own words

Quoted from the organisation’s own site as we archived it. Their description of themselves, not ours, and not a claim this site has checked.

Ward Zero is a 1:1 non-nuclear thermal test reactor. We modified its core with silicon carbide heating elements to test every system at full operational temperatures. Its ready to go live.

We colocate manufacturing and deployment to create the world’s most powerful energy campuses.

Our advanced hydrogen production systems enable efficient and sustainable energy generation, powering the transition to a cleaner future.

AI has created unprecedented demand for reliable, high-density power. Data centers are projected to consume over 200 terawatt hours annually by 2030, more than many nations' total electricity usage. Our gigasites provide the clean, always-on, location-flexible power that compute-intensive applications require, without the intermittency challenges of renewable alternatives.

Transform your industrial operations with our reliable and sustainable power solutions designed for manufacturing excellence.

Advancing the future of clean transportation with our innovative hydrocarbon fuel solutions that minimize environmental impact.

Our future—from AI to interplanetary colonization—requires energy at an unprecedented scale and density. This is the dawn of a new atomic age.

Valar Atomics is revolutionizing the approach: one standardized design built thousands of times, with a business model engineered for scale. Our approach will deliver abundant clean energy to power humanity's future.

We’re building hundreds of reactors on one Gigasite, vertically integrating design, construction, and operation. This model productizes nuclear power and amortizes site costs across gigawatts of energy capacity. We’re escaping the constraints of the grid by producing the products that industrial civilization needs: hydrogen , data center power , heavy industrial power , and clean hydrocarbon fuels .

We've assembled an expert team of nuclear engineers and physicists with decades of experience researching, designing, and constructing HTGRs.

Since its invention, nuclear has been a bespoke, project-based industry, constrained by the grid. To realize the promise of the nuclear age, we need to scale beyond the grid.

To unlock economies of scale, we're building hundreds of nuclear reactors on Valar Atomics gigasites. We focus on grid-independent products: hydrogen, data center power, heavy industrial power, and clean hydrocarbon fuels.

Our reactor uses high-temperature gas reactor (HTGR) design principles. This architecture has an unmatched safety profile and proliferation resistance when paired with TRISO fuel.

Our high volume, grid-independent products create the cashflow to drive manufacturing excellence and operational scale. With scale, nuclear will become the cheapest and most reliable source of energy in the world.

When paired with our sulfur-iodine cycle process, our reactors produce cheap and abundant hydrogen.

Combining our cheap hydrogen with captured CO2 from coal/natural gas plants, DAC, and other point capture sources, we'll create a broad spectrum of hydrocarbons via a modified Fischer-Tropsch process.

Four executive orders gave Valar a mandate to test our reactor. We’re partnering with the Department of Energy, San Rafael Energy Research Center and the State of Utah to go live before America’s 250th birthday on July 4th, 2026.
