What these terms mean
Every classification on this page, defined. These are controlled-vocabulary terms, so the same word means the same thing on every profile.
- Fusion developer
- Develops a fusion device or power plant concept. Carries no implication that the device exists or works.
- Fusion
- Organizations pursuing energy from nuclear fusion, and their dedicated supply chain.
- Beam-target › Beam-target
- Net-energy-incapable by construction, but commercially relevant for neutron and isotope production.
- Deuterium–deuterium
- Deuterium only. Needs far higher temperature than D-T but the fuel is abundant in seawater and no tritium breeding is required.

Acceleron Fusion Electrical Engineer Musheera Khandaker prepares our high-density fusion cell for a test run.
We are developing a high-efficiency muon source engineered to significantly reduce energy cost per muon.
Our high-density fusion cell maximizes the number of fusion reactions that each muon can catalyze.
We have collected data on more than 100 hours of continuous fusion in our machine.
Fusion (of all kinds) has been demonstrated many times - but there are no fusion power plants - yet. The technical challenge before all of us in fusion is to reduce the energy used to bring the fuel to fusion conditions, while increasing the energy output from the fusion, so that net energy can be produced.
Part of the Acceleron Fusion engineering team, onsite at the High Intensity Proton Accelerator facility at the Paul Scherrer Institute in September 2024, setting up our muon catalyzed fusion machine for test runs with highly compressed deuterium-tritium (DT) fuel.
We recently closed a Series A funding round and are located in Cambridge, MA. We are a small company where you can make a big impact while loving what you do -- come help us change the world!
Where Acceleron Fusion sits
Composed from records in this dataset, not from outside research. Every figure below is counted from what the site holds, so it moves when the data does.
