What these terms mean

Every classification on this page, defined. These are controlled-vocabulary terms, so the same word means the same thing on every profile.

Reactor developer
Develops a fission reactor design. Carries no implication that anything is licensed, funded or built.
Fission
Advanced and small modular fission reactor developers, plus established reactor vendors.
Pressurised water reactor › › Pressurised water reactor
Water kept under high pressure so it heats without boiling, transferring heat to a separate steam loop. The most common reactor type in service worldwide.
Low-enriched uranium
Below 5% U-235.

In Deep Fission’s own words

Deep Fission’s Gravity Nuclear Reactor technology taps into one of nature’s most reliable forces intended to support safety functions, reduce surface infrastructure, and enable more repeatable deployment.

Deep Fission is designed to use readily available low-enriched uranium (LEU) fuel — the same category of fuel used in commercial nuclear power plants today.

Our modular reactors are engineered for flexible deployment across a wide range of environments, from industrial hubs to remote locations. Each environment provides dependable and scalable power while supporting industries, communities, and critical infrastructure.

Each component that makes up our technology has been purposely engineered to build one of the most impactful solutions in nuclear power to date.

Deep Fission is revolutionizing the energy landscape with innovative technology that places a small modular pressurized water reactor in a borehole approximately one mile underground. Our approach combines established pressurized water reactor technology with a novel underground deployment model designed to simplify construction, enhance safety, and support rapid, scalable commercial deployment.

We’re working to expand access to reliable energy through a new approach to proven technology.

Our team brings decades of operational and regulatory experience to focus on simplifying infrastructure, reducing deployment bottlenecks, and advancing a path toward scalable nuclear energy.

Deep Fission was founded in 2023 by father-daughter team Liz and Rich Muller, to address the growing gap between rising energy demand and the pace at which reliable, low-carbon power can be deployed. We are currently advancing the development of our first site in Parsons, Kansas and were selected for the Department of Energy’s Reactor Pilot Program.

Powered by a team of experienced scientists, engineers, and entrepreneurs, Deep Fission is focused on delivering reliable, low-carbon baseload power to meet growing electricity demand from utilities, industrial customers, and data centers. Together, we are advancing a phased, disciplined commercialization plan grounded in regulatory engagement, operational credibility, and deployment at infrastructure scale.

Discover how we are building long-term infrastructure value through disciplined commercialization, capital efficiency, and phased deployment. Explore our company updates, financial insights, and opportunities powering the future of nuclear energy.

Deep Fission integrates three established technologies into one system, designed to reduce the cost and complexity of surface infrastructure.

We signed Letters of Intent with partners across multiple power sites to advance joint development projects. These sites represent strategic locations for deploying our nuclear technology and provide a total of 18.5 gigawatts (GWs) to our pipeline.
