The California Institute of Technology (Caltech) has an experimental plasma physics group in its applied physics department. The group ran the Caltech Spheromak Experiment from about 2000 to about 2010. It has also studied injecting spheromaks into tokamaks, both to refuel them and to start up their current without induction, and used laboratory plasmas to model astrophysical jets and solar coronal loops.
