Consorzio RFX

Consorzio RFX is a fusion research consortium in Padua, Italy, founded in 1996 by the National Research Council (CNR), ENEA, the University of Padua, the nuclear physics institute INFN and Acciaierie Venete. It runs RFX, the Reversed Field eXperiment, a reversed-field pinch, which began experiments in 1992, ran as RFX-mod until 2016 and is being upgraded to RFX-mod2. Since 2012 it has also hosted ITER's Neutral Beam Test Facility, where it is building and testing prototypes of ITER's neutral beam heating injectors: SPIDER, a full-size ion source that produced its first beam in May 2019, and MITICA, a full-scale injector prototype.
