ENEA

馃嚠馃嚬 Rome, IT 路 Active

ENEA is Italy's national agency for new technologies, energy and sustainable economic development, a government-sponsored research body headquartered in Rome with centres including Frascati, Casaccia and Brasimone. It took the name ENEA, then standing for nuclear and alternative energy, in 1982, and its mission was broadened in 1991 after Italy's 1987 referendum against nuclear power. In fusion it takes part in ITER, and at Frascati it ran the Frascati Tokamak Upgrade (FTU), a compact high-field tokamak that began operating in 1990 and closed in 2020 to make room for the Divertor Tokamak Test facility (DTT), now under construction to study how to handle the exhaust of reactor-grade plasmas.
