Also known as INL, National Reactor Testing Station

Idaho National Laboratory is a US Department of Energy national laboratory in eastern Idaho, managed by Battelle Energy Alliance for the department's Office of Nuclear Energy. The site began in 1949 as the National Reactor Testing Station, and the laboratory took its present name in 2005 when the Idaho engineering laboratory merged with Argonne National Laboratory's Idaho site. More than 50 reactors have been built on its 890-square-mile site, most now decommissioned. It operates the Advanced Test Reactor, which it describes as a materials test reactor and one of two US reactors producing medical radioisotopes. Its current work covers advanced reactor testing, nuclear fuels and materials, and radioisotope power sources for NASA.
