Lockheed Martin is a US aerospace and defence manufacturer headquartered in North Bethesda, Maryland, formed in 1995 by the merger of Lockheed Corporation and Martin Marietta. It is in this directory because its Skunk Works division ran the Compact Fusion Reactor (CFR) project, which began in 2010 and was first presented publicly in 2013. The design sought to hold plasma in a combination of magnetic cusps and magnetic mirrors produced by superconducting coils. In 2014 the company said it planned to build and test a compact reactor within a year, with a prototype to follow within five years. Wikipedia records no updates after 2019 and the project as halted before 2021, and we list the CFR device as shut down.
