The Nuclear Reactor Program at North Carolina State University in Raleigh runs the PULSTAR research reactor as a user facility. According to Wikipedia, NC State started the first university reactor programme and nuclear engineering curriculum in the US in 1950 and completed its first research reactor in 1953; that reactor was shut in 1973 to make way for the PULSTAR. The PULSTAR runs at up to 1 megawatt and is a partner facility of the Nuclear Science User Facilities network.
