Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) is an investor-owned utility headquartered in Oakland, California, supplying gas and electricity to 5.2 million households in the northern two-thirds of the state. In 1957 it brought online the Vallecitos reactor in Pleasanton, which Wikipedia calls the first privately owned and operated nuclear reactor in the US, and in 1968 it began building the Diablo Canyon Power Plant, which it retained when it sold most of its large gas plants.
