Pacific Northwest National Laboratory is a US Department of Energy Office of Science laboratory in Richland, Washington. It was set up in 1965, when research at the Hanford Site was separated from Hanford's other operations, and took its current name in 1995. In fission it works on reactor operations, licensing, advanced reactors and the fuel cycle, and its Radiochemical Processing Laboratory handles nuclear fuel processing and medical isotopes. In fusion it applies its tritium expertise to fusion materials, fuel-cycle technology and tritium handling.
