Purdue University's School of Nuclear Engineering in West Lafayette, Indiana, operates Purdue University Reactor Number One (PUR-1), a low-power research reactor built in 1962 and used mainly for teaching. According to Wikipedia it is the only operating nuclear reactor in Indiana. The school uses it for neutron activation analysis and runs visits for high school students, who irradiate and identify samples. The reactor has recently had its controls and instrumentation replaced.
