Savannah River National Laboratory is a US Department of Energy laboratory at the Savannah River Site in South Carolina, working for the department's Office of Environmental Management. It was founded in 1951 as the Savannah River Laboratory to research and produce tritium from lithium, for weapons and for civilian fusion research, with plutonium work as a second activity. It was certified as a national laboratory in 2004. Its work now includes nuclear material processing, vitrification of nuclear waste, environmental clean-up, hydrogen storage and nonproliferation. Battelle Savannah River Alliance has managed it since 2021.
