Cameco is a uranium company based in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. It was formed in 1988 by merging two government-owned companies, Eldorado Nuclear and the Saskatchewan Mining Development Corporation, and was fully privatised in 2002. It mines uranium in Saskatchewan, including at McArthur River and Cigar Lake, and in Kazakhstan, and in Ontario it runs a uranium refinery at Blind River and a conversion plant at Port Hope. It owns 49% of Westinghouse Electric, bought with Brookfield in a deal completed in 2023, and 49% of Global Laser Enrichment, which is developing laser uranium enrichment.
