Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission
🇨🇦 Ottawa, CA · Active
Also known as CNSC, Commission canadienne de sûreté nucléaire, CCSN
The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) is Canada's federal regulator of nuclear power and nuclear materials. It was set up under the Nuclear Safety and Control Act of 1997, replacing the Atomic Energy Control Board founded in 1946, and reports to Parliament through the Minister of Natural Resources. It licenses reactors in stages, from site preparation to construction and operation. In April 2025 it authorised Ontario Power Generation to build one GE Hitachi BWRX-300 small modular reactor at the Darlington New Nuclear Project; that licence to construct, recorded on this site, does not yet permit operation.
