Fujikura is a Japanese manufacturer of optical fibre, power and telecommunication cables and electronic components, headquartered in Tokyo. Its origins go back to 1885, when its founder began making insulated winding wire. Its link to fusion is superconducting wire: Fujikura makes rare-earth high-temperature superconducting wire and coils, which carry large currents without resistance at higher temperatures than older superconductors and so allow stronger, more compact magnets. It says it has developed superconducting wire for more than 30 years and calls its technology key to fusion energy. It also makes high-power fibre lasers. Fujikura is listed as an affiliate member of the Fusion Industry Association.
