EX-Fusion is a Japanese start-up working towards a commercial laser fusion power plant, an approach in which pulses from high-power lasers compress small pellets of fuel. It describes itself as the only private company in Japan dedicated to laser fusion energy, and argues that private capital can accept more development risk than state programmes. In July 2025 it reported firing lasers continuously at simulated fuel targets ten times a second, which it described as a world first, and in October 2025 it announced a ¥400 million extension to its Series A funding round. Alongside fusion development it runs a laser processing business that applies its optical control technology to industrial work.
