Kyushu University is a national research university in Fukuoka, Japan, founded in 1903. The IAEA's 2022 survey lists three fusion devices there: QUEST, a spherical tokamak built in 2008, which the survey describes as the largest in Japan, used to study particle balance between the plasma and its walls; UH-CTI, a device for advanced fuelling of spherical tokamak plasmas, installed on QUEST since 2012; and PLATO, a planned device for studying plasma turbulence.
