Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) is a Japanese engineering group headquartered in Tokyo whose products range from ships, aircraft and space launch vehicles to power systems. Its nuclear business has works in Kobe, Takasago and Yokohama and a fuel fabrication plant at Tokai. MHI developed the Mitsubishi APWR, a large pressurised water reactor design, and with Areva formed the joint venture Atmea for the ATMEA1 reactor. The Japanese government selected it as the core company for fast breeder reactor development, for which it set up Mitsubishi FBR Systems. In 2017 it took a 19% stake in the reactor business that became Framatome. A nuclear plant project at Sinop in Turkey, in which MHI was a partner, was abandoned in January 2020.
