Sumitomo Corporation is a Japanese general trading company, or sogo shosha, headquartered in Tokyo and a member of the Sumitomo Group. It was incorporated in Osaka in December 1919 as a real-estate company, moved into trading after 1945 and took the name Sumitomo Shoji in 1952. Its businesses span metals, infrastructure, transport, chemicals, energy, mineral resources, food and consumer goods.
