The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) is a federally owned US electricity corporation created by Congress in May 1933 and headquartered in Knoxville, Tennessee. It receives no taxpayer funding and says it serves more than 10 million people. It operates seven nuclear reactors at the Browns Ferry, Sequoyah and Watts Bar plants; Watts Bar Unit 2 entered commercial operation in October 2016. Its board approved a New Nuclear Program in February 2022, TVA plans to build a BWRX-300 small modular reactor, and in December 2025 the Department of Energy allocated it $400 million for that work. It is also the partner utility for Type One Energy's planned Infinity One and Infinity Two stellarators at its Bull Run Energy Complex.
