EDF (Électricité de France) is the French electricity company created by law on 8 April 1946 and fully renationalised by the French state in June 2023. It operates France's nuclear power plants; Wikipedia counts 56 pressurised water reactors at 18 sites. Its EPR new-build projects are Flamanville in France and Hinkley Point C in Britain, where it took a €12.9 billion impairment in February 2024 for cost overruns, and its site describes construction at Penly, the first site for the next EPR2 design. Its subsidiary NUWARD develops a small modular reactor.

- Pressurised water reactor
- Ordinary (light) water kept under high pressure so it heats without boiling, transferring heat to a separate steam loop; the water is both coolant and moderator. Fuel is low-enriched uranium oxide pellets in zirconium-alloy rods. The most common reactor type in service worldwide.
