The Karlsruhe Institute of Technology is a university in the Helmholtz Association, based in Karlsruhe, and one of Germany's three EUROfusion members. EUROfusion says around 190 scientists, engineers and students in eight KIT institutes work in its Nuclear Fusion Programme, which designs, builds and tests components and systems for ITER, works on DEMO and future power plants, and contributes to Wendelstein 7-X. Its specialities include tritium processing, gyrotrons (high-power microwave sources for plasma heating), breeding blankets and reduced-activation steels.
