The United Kingdom National Nuclear Laboratory (UKNNL), called the National Nuclear Laboratory until it was renamed in December 2024, is a government-owned nuclear research and technology organisation. It grew out of research facilities within British Nuclear Fuels, was formally launched in 2008, and has been operated directly by the government since October 2013. It works across the nuclear fuel cycle, from supporting existing plants and decommissioning to waste management, nuclear medicine and security, and is funded by its customers, which have included Sellafield Ltd, the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority, the Ministry of Defence and the UK Atomic Energy Authority. It operates at six sites in the UK.
