NUWARD is the EDF subsidiary dedicated to developing a small modular reactor. The French business register gives the company's creation date as 30 November 2022 and its seat in Paris. The design first described to the IAEA was an integral pressurised water reactor producing 340 MWe from two independent reactor units, developed with CEA, Naval Group, Framatome, TechnicAtome and Tractebel. According to Wikipedia, EDF discontinued that design in July 2024 in favour of one based on existing technologies, and said in January 2025 that the new conceptual design, of about 400 MWe, would be completed by mid-2026.
